A Symbol of Leuven’s Baking Tradition
Dorre the Baker represents the image of a young, dynamic pre-war baker, carrying dough from his customers to be baked. The statue highlights the long-standing tradition and pride of the baking trade in Leuven.
Creation and Unveiling
The bronze statue was created by Roland Rens at the request of the Association of Bakers and Pastry Cooks, together with the Friends of Baking. It was officially unveiled in 1979, celebrating one of the city’s oldest and most cherished crafts.
Cultural Significance
Beyond honouring bakers, Dorre symbolises Leuven’s artisan heritage and the essential role of food traditions in community life.
The statue is located in the city centre of Diestsestraat.
