This is a future collector’s item. The print captures an overlooked yet beautiful fragment of Leuven’s diverse cityscape. I love the artist’s choice of framing, highlighting the architectural aesthetic of Vaartkom, as well as the abstraction and the colour palette. Congratulations to Catchy for curating Leuven’s urban, historic, and artistic values so thoughtfully!
When thinking about art-work for the city of Leuven, one usually thinks about the Town Hall, the churches and the Begiinhof. However buildings reflecting industrial activities are equally important, but mostly neglected. During the recent renovation campaign of the Vaartkom, the concrete lifting structure was equally preserved as an industrial monument; Therefore I thought that this monument also merited a place in my collection. Upon careful inspection of the print, I also discovered that this print was made in two times, requiring a careful repositioning of the lino the second time. The two blue colours give a special and attractive aspect to this print. I am glad I bought it. Catchy Sights is particularly good in finding the appropriate artists to do the job.
