The Bronze Duck : bring a touch of good fortune

The Bronze Duck (De Dijle Eend): A Unique Fountain by René Rosseel

The Bronze Duck (De Dijle Eend), created by renowned sculptor René Rosseel in 2003, is a charming addition to Leuven’s public art scene. Commissioned by the local resident’s association of Redingenstraat, this drinking fountain was designed to enhance the neighborhood’s aesthetic appeal and bring a touch of good fortune.

The duck, crafted from bronze, is more than just a decorative piece. It is part of a playful ritual intended to bring luck to those who interact with it. To participate, follow these steps:

  1. Rub the duck’s back three times.
  2. Gently grasp its tail with your little finger.
  3. Walk around the fountain to the black knob on the ground and press it.
  4. Drink from the fountain while making a silent wish.

Located in Redingenstraat, the Bronze Duck serves as both a functional drinking fountain and a delightful cultural touchstone for the community.
